What this assumes

  • You need DTC approval first. An RDSP cannot be opened without the Disability Tax Credit. Here is how to apply →
  • Income and contributions stay flat. Real life varies. Re-run it when your situation changes — especially the year the beneficiary turns 19, when the income test switches from family income to their own.
  • Carry-forward is matched at today’s rates. The CRA actually applies the rates from each historical year, oldest first. If your income was different back then, your real grant will differ somewhat.
  • Withdrawing early is expensive. For every $1 taken out, $3 of grant and bond is repaid, up to the total paid in the previous 10 years.
  • Your provincial benefits are safe. Every province and territory fully exempts RDSP assets and withdrawals from disability benefit calculations.
